ST. JOSEPH, Mo.,‒ The Pittsburg State University volleyball team fell in the MIAA semifinals Friday (Nov.11) to the Lopers of the University of Nebraska Kearney 3-1.
In the first set, the gorillas got off to a 13-7 run to start the set. The Lopers battled back but after a kill by Lexi Miller and a block by Miller and Clennan, the Gorillas took the first set 30-28. Janae Thurston had 7 kills in the first set for the Gorillas.
In the second set, The Lopers got off to a 15-5 start, The Gorilla comeback wasn't enough as the Lopers tied the match taking set two 25-17.
In the third set, with a quick start the Lopers powered their way to a 25-16 set win to take a 2-1 lead against the Gorillas.
In the fourth set, the teams battled back and forth ending in a Lopers 25-19 win to take the match 3-1
Outside Hitters Meg Auten, Janae Thurston and Lexi Miller had double digit kills on the evening. Meg Auten led the team with 13 kills. Thurston had a double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs. Lexi Miller had 12 kills on the evening. Setter Brianna Richard had 37 assists, while Libero Marissa Bates had 30 digs.
The Gorillas finish the season with a 17-14 record.
