PITTSBURG — Taye Eames' transition dunk with 2.5 seconds to play lifted the Missouri Western State University men's basketball team to a 66-65 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Dec. 3) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
In a game that featured seven lead changes and six ties, the Gorillas (3-4, 1-1 MIAA) grabbed on 65-64 lead on Quentin Hardrict Jr.'s runner with 7.3 seconds to play.
Following a timeout, the Griffs (4-2, 1-0) inbounded the ball to Reese Glover who flipped the ball to Eames near midcourt as he charged toward the basketball and dunked the ball for the go-ahead points.
R.J. Forney Jr. got off a guarded 3-point field goal attempt just ahead of the final buzzer but the shot was offline.
Forney paced the Gorillas with 17 points, hitting five of 11 3-point field goal attempts, while Hardrict added 12 points and six assists. Deshaun English II added 10 points and 17 rebounds.
Fields led all scorers with 20 points for Western, while Will Eames chipped in with 14.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Dec. 3) when Pitt State plays host to No. 1 ranked Northwest Missouri State University at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
