Gorillas Usher In New Era With Commanding Victories

PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team ushered in the Jenny Fuller era with two commanding wins over Southwest Baptist University, 11-2, 10-3.

After falling behind in game one 1-0 in the top of the first the Gorilla offense got to work by answering the Bearcats in the bottom of the first with three runs off the bats of Madi Szymanski and Kianna Pellegrino.

Kylee Bohle got the action started in the second inning with a two-run shot down the left field line to give the Gorillas a 5-1 lead. Keelah Griffith followed up with another two-run shot later in the inning to give the Gorillas a 7-1 advantage. The scoring continued into the fifth for the Gorillas as they took the 11-2 victory by run rule.

In game two, the Gorilla offense started back up where it left off scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first to take a 7-1 early lead. That deficit would prove to be too much for the Bearcats to overcome with the Gorillas finishing out the game on top 10-3.

Griffith finished the day 4-6 including four RBIs. Abby Atkins went four complete innings inside the circle in game one allowing two hits and one earned run.

Pitt State will return to action Friday (Dec. 11) at Bentonville, Ark., in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. The Gorillas are set to play five games over the weekend starting with William Jewell Friday at 3 p.m. (CST).
