Gorillas Swept on Day Two in Alaska Anchorage Classic.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Anchorage, Alaska ­—­­­­­ The Pittsburg State University Volleyball team finished the weekend in Alaska dropping two matches against Alaska Fairbanks 3-0 and Alaska Anchorage 3-0.

In the first match, the Nanooks took an early lead against the Gorillas and held on to a 25-20 win in the first set. In the second set, the Nanooks kept momentum, winning it 25-18. With their backs against the wall, the Gorillas battled in the third set but fell 26-24.

Jayden Sanford, and Janae Thurston both led the Gorillas with 10 kills. Graduate Brianna Richard dished out 32 assists and Bates had 20 digs.

The Gorillas fell in the night match to the Seawolves. Alaska Anchorage started off on the right foot taking the first set 25-15. The Seawolves continued to dominate in front of their home crowd winning the second set 25-16. After a back and forth third set the Seawolves complete the sweep winning 25-20.  

Grad Student Brianna Richard had 23 assists for the Gorillas. Janae Thurston and Seville Gates led the Gorillas with seven kills. Bates had 11 digs to finish the night for the Gorillas.

The Gorillas (1-3) will return to John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court next Friday as they host the second annual Gorilla Challenge. Their first match will be against New Mexico Highlands at 9 a.m. Then later in the day the Gorillas will face Mary at 4:30 p.m.
