Box Score WICHITA — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team rallied from behind on the road to win against Newman University, 3-2, Saturday (Sept. 10) at Fugate Gymnasium.
The Gorillas got off to a hot start, winning the first set 25-21. The Jets evened the match and pushed in front by winning the second and third sets by scores of 25-21 and 27-25.
With their backs against the wall, the Gorillas dominated the third set, 25-13. A back and forth fifth set went down to the wire with the Gorillas prevailing in dramatic fashion, 16-14.
Graduate Meg Auten led the way for the Gorillas with 24 kills and 23 digs along with a .358 attack percentage. Brianna Richard continued to facilitate with 52 assists. Marissa Bates led the Gorillas with 32 digs. Kate Bandre, Janae Thurston and Seville Gates also all finished with double-digit kill outputs.
The Gorillas will be back in action Tuesday (Sept. 13) as they travel to Liberty, Mo., to battle William Jewell. That match against the Cardinals will start at 6 p.m
