Gorillas Set for Non-Conference Bout at William Jewell

PITTSBURG­– The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will travel to Liberty, Mo., Tuesday (Sept. 13) for a non-conference battle with William Jewell University. First serve is set for 6 p.m. (CDT) at the Mabee Center.
 
The Matchup
The Gorillas are currently 6-4 after splitting two matches to open up MIAA play this past weekend. Pitt State beat Newman, 3-2, last Saturday (Sept. 10) at Wichita, one day after dropping a 3-0 decision to the University of Central Oklahoma in the MIAA opener at Edmond, Okla.
 
William Jewell is 7-4 after going 2-1 this past weekend at a tournament hosted by Harding University at Searcy, Ark. The Cardinals beat East Central, 3-1, and Arkansas Monticello, 3-0, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Ouachita Baptist.

  • The Gorillas come into the matchup leading the MIAA in digs with 704 (19.03 dps).
  • Graduate libero Marissa Bates is second in the MIAA with 211 digs, averaging 5.7 per set.
  • Graduate Setter Brianna Richard is third in the MIAA with 373 assists, averaging 10.36 per set.
Scouting the Cardinals.
  • The Cardinals enter Tuesday's match third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in assists.
  • Senior middle blocker Tatum Ernt is third in the GLVC in hitting percentage (.360).
