Gorillas Post 82-61 Victory Over Lady Hornets

PITTSBURG — Grace Pyle posted her first career double-double to help lead the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to an 82-61 victory over Emporia State University Thursday (Jan. 12) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Pyle finished with a team-leading 17 points as the Gorillas (12-4, 7-3 MIAA) shot 50.8 percent from the field in the contest. Tristan Gegg and Karenna Gerber added 13 points apiece and Erin Davis chipped in with nine points.

Harper Schreiner posted career highs with 13 rebounds and eight assists in the contest. Schreiner, Sydney Holmes, Savannah Campbell and Jenna Shipley each scored six points.

Pitt State and ESU (9-7, 4-6 MIAA) were tied, 17-17, at the end of the first quarter, but the Gorillas exploded for a 14-2 run to open the second quarter and take control. The Lady Hornets got as close as nine points, 31-22, on a 3-pointer by Kylee Scheer, before Pitt State closed out the period on a 9-2 run to build a 16-point cushion.

Stevie Stinchcomb paced the Lady Hornets with a game-high 18 points.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 14) by hosting MIAA rival Washburn University at 1:30 p.m. (CST).
