PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team utilized a balanced offensive attack as the Gorillas posted a 93-81 victory over Newman University Saturday (Jan. 28) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Deshaun English II led five Gorillas in double figures with a season high 25 points to help Pitt State (6-15, 3-12 MIAA) snap a seven-game losing streak. Freshman Landon Hughlett added a career best 19 points, while Quentin Hardrict Jr. finished with 19 points and eight assists. R.J. Forney Jr. chipped in with 15 points and Jeramy Shaw hit double figures with 10 points.
The Gorillas fell behind 12-0 early in the game, before exploding to take a 41-33 lead at the intermission. Pitt State stretched its margin to 23 points, 83-60, before settling for the 12-point win.
Stevie Strong paced the Jets (6-14, 2-12 MIAA) with 24 points.
The Gorillas will hit the road for match-ups against the University of Central Missouri and Lincoln University next week.
