HAY, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team shot out to a hot start and never looked back in rolling to an 87-65 road win over Fort Hays State University Saturday (Jan. 7) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

The Gorillas (11-4, 6-3 MIAA) shot 60 percent from the field in the first quarter while rushing out to a 25-10 lead against the Lady Tigers (13-5, 8-2 MIAA). Pitt State stretched its margin to 50-19 at the half against a cold shooting FHSU team that finished the contest 0-for-19 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Grace Pyle led all scorers with 21 points in the game. She made eight of 16 shots from the floor. Tristan Gegg added 19 points on the strength of 5-for-7 shooting from 3-point range. Harper Schreiner and Karenna Gerber chipped in with 13 points apiece for the Gorillas.

Pitt State overcame 21 turnovers in the contest by shooting 50.8 percent from the field (33-65), compared to 37.3 percent shooting (25-67) by the Lady Tigers. The Gorillas snapped a seven-game losing streak against FHSU at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Olivia Hollenbeck led three FHSU players in double figures with 20 points. Katie Wagner and Emma Ruddle added 12 points apiece.

Pitt State will return to the friendly confines of John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court next Thursday (Jan. 12) to host MIAA rival Emporia State University.
