PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team scored 14 of the game's first 16 points, built a 30-point halftime cushion and never looked back in downing Newman University, 82-66, Thursday (Dec. 7).
Max Alexander and Braydon Redd combined for 48 points as the Gorillas snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 3-4 overall (1-2 MIAA) on the season. The Jets dropped to 4-4 (1-2 MIAA) with the loss.
Alexander poured in a game high 29 points and added eight rebounds in the contest. Redd chipped in with 19 points and six rebounds. Jordan Frison finished with 11 points and a season best eight assists, while Deshaun English II posted nine points and a game high 14 rebounds.
The Gorillas shot 57.1 percent in the first half (20-35) and 50.9 percent for the game overall (27-53).
Sam Somerhalder paced the Jets with 20 points.
The Gorillas will host No. 3 University of Central Oklahoma Saturday (Dec. 9) at 3:30 p.m. (CST).
