Gorillas Split Pair of Games Sunday

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team split a pair of non-conference games Sunday (Feb. 19) at Al Ortolani Field. The Gorillas posted a 14-11 win over the University of Sioux Falls before dropping a 14-8 decision to Metropolitan State University Denver.

Pitt State (8-3) scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 10-9 deficit and win game one. Austin Warkins delivered the go-ahead run with an RBI single. Deagan Brady added an RBI double and Karson Coffee smacked a two-run double to give the Gorillas insurance runs.

Paul Panduro (2-1) one run in 4.0 innings of relief work to earn the win for Pitt State.

In game two, MSU Denver scored two runs in the top of the fifth to break a 6-6 tie and the visiting Roadrunners utilized a four-run eighth inning to take control.

Jake Grauberger belted a solo home run, while Connor Laux went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Zac Nagel (0-1) took the loss in relief.

Pitt State will travel to Shawnee, Okla., Tuesday (Feb. 21) for a 2 p.m. (CST) game against Oklahoma Baptist University.
