Gorillas Earn No. 4 Seed in MIAA Tournament

Pitt State to Meet MSSU in MIAA Quarterfinals Friday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The bracket for the 2023 MIAA Postseason Women's Basketball Tournament has been released and Pittsburg State University is preparing to take part in the action at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

The Pitt State women earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and the Gorillas will meet No. 5 seed Missouri Southern State University at 6 p.m. Friday (Mar. 3) in quarterfinal action. The winner of that game will advance to the tournament semifinals Saturday (Mar. 4) at 6 p.m. For the full women's tournament bracket, click here.

The Gorillas (22-6, 17-5 MIAA) and Lady Lions (24-6, 16-6 MIAA) met twice during the regular season with Pitt State sweeping the series against MSSU. The Gorillas posted an 87-79 win over the Lady Lions at Joplin, Mo., on Jan. 2 and Pitt State defeated MSSU, 74-64, in Pittsburg on Feb. 11.

Gorilla fans can purchase tickets at the Pitt State Ticket Office or by calling (620) 235-4796. Advance tickets for all-session passes for all 14 men's and women's games to be played at Kansas City are $50. The price increases to $75 if purchased in Kansas City or through ticketmaster.com. Single session tickets also are available for $20 for adults and $10 for PSU students with a valid ID.
 
Local sales will run through Noon, Wednesday (Mar. 1).
 
For fans who cannot see the Gorillas in person, all Pitt State games can be heard on ESPN 100.7 FM radio, online at espn1007.com or through the ESPN 100.7 or KSHQ app for phones or mobile devices. All tournament games also will be live streamed on www.themiaanetwork.com.
 
MIAA Hall of Fame Reception
Pittsburg State Athletics and the Office of Alumni & Constituent Relations will host a reception honoring three MIAA Hall of Fame Inductee Pittsburg State teams. The Gorilla Gathering will take place from 4-6 p.m.in the Downtown Marriott – Historic Muehlebach Lobby Friday (Mar. 1).
 
The event is free and appetizers will be served with a cash bar available.
 
During the reception, PSU will recognize the 1992 NCAA National Runner-Up Football Team; the 2016 NCAA National Champion Women's Outdoor Track & Field Team; and, the 2018 NCAA National Champion Men's Indoor Track & Field Team.
 
All three squads will be formally introduced into the MIAA Hall of Fame at halftime of Pitt State's match-up against MSSU Friday evening.
