Gorillas Complete Series Sweep of RiverHawks

PITTSBURG — Ben Des Rosiers tossed 6.0 innings of three-hit ball and the Pittsburg State University baseball team smacked five home runs as the Gorillas completed a three-game sweep of Northeastern State University with a 12-0 win Sunday (Mar. 19). Pitt State also defeated NSU, 5-2, earlier in the day.
 
Des Rosiers and reliever Maverick Hanna combined on a three-hit shutout in the series finale against the RiverHawks (10-13, 4-9 MIAA). Rosiers (4-0) registered a season-high nine strikeouts in remaining unbeaten on the year.
 
Cade Clemons smacked a pair of solo home runs in the contest. Austin Warkins, Jake Grauberger and Nixon Brannan all connected on two-run homers.
 
The Gorillas (18-7, 10-3 MIAA) did the bulk of their damage with a three-run first inning, a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth frame. Brannan paced the Pitt State offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Warkins also went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
 
In game one, Tanner Leslie and relievers Andrew Wisner and Parker Weddle combined to limit NSU to four hits. Leslie (3-1) allowed one earned run in 6.0 innings of work, walking one and fanning five batters. Wisner pitched a clean seventh inning with two strikeouts, while Weddle picked up his first save by recording the final six outs.
