Gorillas Complete Series Sweep of Griffs

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a 5-1 game with six runs in the sixth inning and the Gorillas pulled away for a 15-1 run-rule win over Missouri Western State University Monday (Mar. 10).

The victory helped the Gorillas (12-6, 4-2 MIAA) complete the three-game series sweep of the Griffons (3-10, 0-6 MIAA).

Starter Ben Des Rosiers (2-0) limited MWSU to one hit and one unearned run through 6.0 innings of work. He hit three batters and registered five strikeouts. Boston Dowd fanned three batters in the seventh inning.

Offensively, the Gorillas pounded out 15 hits as Nixon Brannan and Cade Clemons both went 4-for-4 at the plate. Brannan homered twice and drove in three runs, while Clemons doubled, homered and collected two RBI.

Carson Koffee also smacked a three-run home run and Ryan Koval went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the contest.

The Gorillas were scheduled to host Oklahoma Baptist University Tuesday (Mar. 7) but that game has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. Pitt State is next scheduled to travel to Maryville, Mo., for a three-game MIAA series against Northwest Missouri State University beginning Friday (Mar. 10).
