Ichabods Sweep Gorillas in Doubleheader Saturday

PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University softball team lost both games of their double header against the Ichabods of Washburn University Saturday (Apr.15) at the PSU Softball Complex.

The Ichabods took game one by a score of 10-5 and held off a Gorilla comeback in game two 6-3.




Game One

The Ichabods took game one off of an early start with their offense as Jaycee Ginter hits an rbi single in the top of the first to give Washburn a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, the Ichabods would score two runs with an rbi triple from Marrit Mead to extend the Washburn lead to 2-0. On the next at-bat, Ellington Hogle would score Mead with an rbi single to make the score 3-0. Mead would add another rbi with a rbi double in the top of the fourth to maket the score 4-0. In the top of the fifth, Jaden LaBarge would hit an rbi single to give the Ichabods a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Heather Arnett would get the Gorillas on the board with an infield rbi single to make the score 5-1.The Ichabods would extend their lead in the top of the sixth with a two run single off the bat of Erin Boles to make the score 7-1. In the bottom of the sixth, the Gorillas would battle back with an rbi single from Taylor Lambert to make the score 7-2. On the next at bat, Arnett would have her second rbi of the game with a single to left to make the score 7-3. In the top of the seventh, the Ichabods would score three with a sac fly from Hogle to make it 8-3. Two batters later, Ginter would hit a two-run single to center to make the score 10-3. The Gorillas would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single from Gabby Schultz to cut the lead to 10-5 but the Ichabods would hang on to win 10-5. Arnett would go 2-4 with two rbis on the game for the Gorillas on the offensive end. 

Game Two

The Ichabods would fight off a Gorilla comeback in game two with a 6-3 win. In the top of the first, Washburn would score on an rbi fielder's choice off the bat of LaBarge to make it 1-0. In the top of the third, the Ichabods would score two runs off of a two-run single from Paige Robbins to make the score 3-0.The Ichabods would score three runs in the top of the fifth starting with an rbi double from Autymn Schreiner to make it 5-0. Three batters later, a two-run infield single from Hadley Kerschen would extend the Ichabod lead to 6-0. In the bottom of the seventh, the Gorillas would rally starting with an rbi double from Paxtyn Hayes to make the score 6-1. Two batters later, Keelah Griffith would reach on a fielder's choice while driving in a run to make it 6-2. Later that inning, Kianna Pellegrino would hit an rbi single to left field to make it 6-3. But the Ichabods would shut the door after that to make the final score 6-3. 


The Gorillas (23-17,8-10 MIAA) will be back in action next weekend (Apr 21-22) as they will be hosting the Griffons of Missouri Western and the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri at the PSU Softball Complex.
