Jets Take Series With 11-0 Win Sunday

PITTSBURG -- Nate Denniston pitched into the seventh inning and limited the Pittsburg State University baseball team to three hits as Newman University posted an 11-0 run-rule victory Sunday (Apr. 23) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Jets (21-26, 13-17 MIAA) took two of three games from the Gorillas (30-15, 20-10 MIAA) in the series, pouncing on Pitt State with a pivotal seven-run second inning.

Denniston (4-4) scattered three hits, walked one batter and hit another while registering eight strikeouts. Andrew Prieve recorded the final three outs in the seventh after the Gorillas put runners on first and second base with no outs.

Cade Clemons had a double in the game for Pitt State, while Karson Coffee and Ryan Koval accounted for the Gorillas' other two hits. Tanner Leslie (3-3) took the loss on the mound. He allowed six runs in 1.2 innings of work. Five relievers worked behind Leslie in the game.

Pitt State will close out the regular season by hosting Washburn University in a three-game MIAA series beginning next Friday (Apr. 28).
