WICHITA, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State University softball team saw its season come to an end with a doubleheader split against Newman University Sunday (Apr. 30). The Gorillas defeated the Lady Jets, 2-0, in the opener before falling, 5-4, in the nightcap.
Pitt State ends its season with a 27-21 overall record and a 12-14 mark in MIAA play.
Hannah Harrison limited NU to five hits in the Gorillas' shutout win in game one. Harrison (14-10) issued two walks and logged four strikeouts. Sophia Driver provided all the offense Harrison needed with a two-run single in the top of the second inning. She finished the game 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Heather Arnett also went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
The Lady Jets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two and held off the Gorillas in the late innings. Kianna Pellegrino went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Arnett also had a pair of hits, including a triple, and two runs scored in the game.
