JOPLIN, MO – The Pittsburg State softball team drop two games to the Lions of Missouri Southern Saturday (Apr. 8) at the Patlipira softball complex in Joplin, Mo. The Lions took the first game by a score of 8-3 and 4-3 in eight innings in game two.

Game One
In game one the Lions defeated the Gorillas 8-3. Â The Lions got on the board first in the bottom of the first with an rbi single from Josie Tofpi to make the score 1-0. Later that inning the Lions would score on another rbi single from Kara Amos to extend the lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lions extended their lead on a three-run home run from Emily Perry to make the score 5-0. The Gorillas got on the board with an rbi triple off of the bat of Heather Arnett to make the score 5-1. The next at-bat, Arnett would score off of a sacrifice fly off the bat of Paxtyn Hayes to cut the Lion lead to 5-2. The Lions would score in the bottom of the sixth with an two-run double from Tofpi to extend the lead to 7-2. On the next at-bat, Leighton Withers would hit an rbi double to make it 8-2. In the top of the seventh, The Gorillas would battle back with a solo home run from Sophia Driver to make the score 8-3.

Game Two
The Lions take game two in eight innings 4-3. The Gorillas got on the board in the top of the first with a two-run home run home run from Hayes to make the score 2-0. Later that half inning Gracie Sullivan walked with the bases loaded to make the score 3-0. In the bottom of the first, the Lions scored a run on an rbi single from Katie Gray to make the score 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lions would score two runs with a two-run home run off the bat of Perry to tie the game at 3-3. The Lions would walk it off in the bottom of the eighth as Tofpi was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Gorillas (22-14, 7-7 MIAA) will be back in action next Friday (Apr. 14) as they will have a double header starting at 3:00 p.m. against the Hornets of Emporia State at the PSU Softball field at the Gene Bicknell Sports complex.
