Golden, Colo. – The Pittsburg State volleyball program split its matches against (RV) Augustana (S.D.) and Colorado Christian on Saturday (Sept. 2) to conclude the Oredigger Classic for the Gorillas inside Lockridge Arena.
In match one of the day, the Gorillas 3-2 beat the Vikings with set scores of 25-15, 22-25, 27-25, 16-25, 15-12. Janae Thurston led the team with 21 kills and 20 digs for her first double-double of the season. Jadyn Jackson dished out a career-high 41 assists along with 15 digs for the first double-double of her collegiate career.
To conclude the tournament, Pitt State fell in three sets, 26-24, 25-16, 25-17 against the Cougars. Thurston finished with a team-high 12 kills while Jackson finished with 22 assists, eight digs and seven kills.
Up next for Pitt State will be the Gorilla Classic Tournament inside John Lance Arena with matches being played Friday, Sept. 8th and Saturday, Sept. 9th at Whetzel Court. Pitt State will begin the tournament with matches against Drury at 11:30 a.m. and Northwestern Oklahoma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday before wrapping up the weekend with matches scheduled for 2:00 p.m. against Southwest Minnesota State and 7:00 p.m. against Arkansas – Fort Smith Saturday.
