PITTSBURG — Seville Gates pounded down 11 kills and posted a team-leading .455 attack percentage to help fuel the Pittsburg State University volleyball team past the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, 3-0, Saturday (Sept. 9).
The Gorillas convincing 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 victory over the Lions helped Pitt State post a 3-1 record in its 2023 Gorilla Classic at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Janae Thurston added 12 kills and 16 digs in the victory, while Jadyn Jackson finished with 34 assists and 17 digs. Gates had seven block assists to go along with her 11-kill performance.
Earlier Saturday, No. 11 ranked Southwest Minnesota State University closed out a 4-0 weekend with a straight set (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) win over the Gorillas. Gates made a team-best 10 kills in the loss to the Mustangs.

The Gorillas improved to 4-4 on the season following the two-day tournament. Pitt State will open MIAA play Tuesday (Sept. 12) by hosting Newman University at 7 p.m. (CDT).
