PITTSBURG — Isaac Johnson hit a big 3-pointer wit 1:43 to play in regulation to help seal a 86-79 comeback win for the Hillcats over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Jan. 24) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Rogers State (11-7, 8-4 MIAA) needed a 12-1 run in the second half to help overcome a 13-point deficit and post its fifth straight win. The Gorillas (9-8, 5-6 MIAA) dropped their third straight decision with the loss.
Johnson scored a game-high 20 points to pace the Hillcats, who shot 52.4 percent from the field in the game (33-63).
The loss spoiled a solid night by Pitt State's R.J. Forney Jr., who connected on six of seven 3-point field goals and scored a career high 18 points. Jeramy Shaw added 17 points, while Jordan Frison and Tane Prictor added 12 apiece. Prictor added four blocked shots in the contest.
Deshaun English II contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots before fouling out with 3:16 to play in the game. He finished one rebound short of posting his fifth consecutive double-double.
The Gorillas shot 54.9 percent from the floor (28-51) and connected on 10 3-pointers in the contest, but Pitt State committed 17 costly turnovers compared to just five giveaways by the Hillcats.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Jan. 27) by hosting Northeastern State University at 3:30 p.m.
