PITTSBURG — Deshaun English II scored a career high 28 points to help pace the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to a 97-73 victory over Northeastern State University Saturday (Jan. 27).
English connected on his first 10 shots from the floor, including six 3-pointers, en route to his 28-point performance. He tallied 20 points in the first half as the Gorillas built a 50-37 cushion. English added seven rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots to his stat line.
Jordan Frison chipped in with 17 points and eight assists, while R.J. Forney Jr. (12) and Tanner Mans (11) also scored in double figures.
Pitt State (10-8, 6-6 MIAA) shot a blistering 64.3 percent from the field, making 36 of 66 attempts in the game. The Gorillas connected on 15 of 21 3-point field goals as well.
NSU (7-12, 2-11 MIAA) got a team-leading 20 points from Trey Quartlebaum. Keon Edwards (11), Jaxson Jones (11), Ethan Blackmon (10) and Shakeil Bertrand (10) also finished in double figures.
The Gorillas will embark upon a three-game road swing next week starting with a Tuesday (Jan. 30) trip to Warrensburg, Mo., to face the University of Central Missouri.
