PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team hit the road for a pair of MIAA matches against Sunflower State opponents this week.
The Gorillas will travel to Topeka Thursday (Oct. 3) to battle Washburn University at 6 p.m. (CDT) at Lee Arena. Pitt State will then venture to Emporia, Kan., to take on Emporia State University Friday at 6 p.m. at W.L. White Auditorium.
The Gorillas are in the midst of a five-game road swing.
The Gorilla Scoop
- Jen Gomez is in her ninth season leading the Gorillas. She has a 98-140 overall record at PSU while leading the program into four of the last five MIAA Tournaments.
- Kennedy Shelstead is in her first season on the sidelines at Pittsburg State as an assistant coach, with graduate assistant Hannah Delor beginning her second season helping mentor the Gorillas.
- Pitt State is 6-6 overall (1-1 MIAA) on the season. The Gorillas posted a 1-1 mark at last weekend to begin MIAA action on the road against Arkansas-Fort Smith and Washburn.
- Statistical leaders for the season are Vix Vilott with 137.5 points (3.35 per set) and 115 kills (2.80 per set); Jesa Wallace with 226 assists (7.53 per set); Josie McCroskey with 198 digs (4.83 per set); and Anna Dean with 41 total blocks (1.00 per set).

- Washburn is 9-3 overall (0-2 MIAA) on the season, coming off a pair of five-set losses against Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western. Statistical leaders are Jalyn Stevenson with 154.0 points (3.42 per set) and 133 kills (2.96 per set); Corinna McMullen with 276 assists (6.27 per set); Taylor Rottinghaus with 225 digs (5.00 per set); and Alex Dvorak leads the team with 55 total blocks (1.22 per set).
- Emporia State is 9-3 overall (1-1 MIAA) heading into the weekend, following a win over Northwest Missouri and a loss to Missouri Western. Statistical leaders are Rayishon Jackman with 209.5 points (4.87 per set), 195 kills (4.53 per set) and 167 digs (3.88 per set); Brailee Bogle with 477 assists (11.09 per set); and Mia Frisbie with 42 total blocks (1.02 per set).
