PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team will wrap up a five-match road swing with a Tuesday (Oct. 8) contest at Wichita against Newman University. First serve is set for 6 p.m. (CDT) at Fugate Gymnasium.
 
The Gorilla Scoop

• Jen Gomez is in her ninth season leading the Gorillas. She has a 98-142 overall record at PSU while leading the program into four of the last five MIAA Tournaments.
• Kennedy Shelstead is in her first season on the sidelines at Pittsburg State as an assistant coach, with graduate assistant Hannah Delor beginning her second season helping mentor the Gorillas.
• Pitt State is 6-8 overall (1-3 MIAA) on the season. The Gorillas dropped a pair of road matches against Washburn and Emporia State last week.
• Statistical leaders for the season are Vix Vilott with 158.5 points (3.30 per set) and 130 kills (2.71 per set); Jesa Wallace with 261 assists (7.25 per set); Josie McCroskey with 237 digs (4.94 per set); and Anna Dean with 47 total blocks (0.98 per set).

 
The Opposition

• Newman is 3-15 overall (0-4 MIAA) on the season, coming off back-to-back three-set losses on the road against Washburn and Emporia State. Ozioma Ajekwu leads the team with 209.0 points (3.67 per set) and 180 kills (3.16 per set). Avery Dempsey has dished out 296 assists (8.00 per set). Natalie Trigo leads the team with 279 digs (4.43 per set) and Natalie Meyer has accumulated a team leading 48 total blocks (0.76 per set).
