Pitt State Women Tabbed First/Second in MIAA Polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2024-25 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll released today (Oct. 8) while the Gorillas were tabbed second in the MIAA Preseason Media Poll.
 
The Gorillas received 10 first-place votes and 164 points from the conference coaches to earned the No. 1 ranking. Fort Hays State registered two first-place votes and 152 points to land at No. 2 in the coaches poll, while Northwest Missouri gained the final two first-place votes and 142 points to finish third in the poll.

In the media poll, FHSU drew the No. 1 ranking with nine first-place votes and 246 points, while Pitt State secured five first-place votes and 231 points to claim the No. 2 spot. NWMSU was third with one first-place votes and 225 points.

Head coach Amanda Davied returns all five starters from a 2023-24 team that posted a 24-8 record (15-7 MIAA), captured the MIAA Postseason Tournament crown and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Senior forward Karenna Gerber and senior guard Grace Pyle each earned first-team All-MIAA honors a year ago. Gerber (Halstead, Kan.) averaged a team-leading 16.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting .598 from the field. Pyle (McPherson, Kan.) contributed 15.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while making a team-best 84 3-point field goals on the year.

Junior guard Harper Schreiner (Eudora, Kan.) also garnered honorable mention All-MIAA honors last year by averaging 7.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
 
Davied has a 115-58 career record entering her seventh season leading her alma mater.
 
Pitt State will open the 2024-25 season by competing in the D2CCA Tip-off Classic Nov. 2-3 at St. Joseph, Mo. The Gorillas will battle national powers Ferris State and Southern Nazarene in the showcase event.
