PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team's offense exploded for 18 runs in a run-rule victory over No. 25 University of Central Oklahoma Sunday (Mar. 24) at Al Ortolani Field.
The Gorillas 18-4 win came largely due to a six-run fourth inning and a 10-run sixth frame. Pitt State (20-9, 11-5 MIAA) picked up its 20th win of the season and took two of three games in the MIAA series from the No. 25 ranked Bronchos (23-7, 10-6 MIAA).
Nixon Brannan swatted a pair of two-run home runs in the contest, while Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo collected four hits, including a pair of doubles. A.J. Craft smacked a grandslam home run as part of Pitt State's 10-run outburst in the sixth. Austin Warkins also hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Choy Foo went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI, while Brannan registered a team-leading five RBI on the day.
Brady Pacha (2-3) allowed three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work. He issued five walks but helped his own cause with six strikeouts. Boston Dowd registered the final five outs on the mound for the Gorillas.
Pitt State will return to action Tuesday (Mar. 26) by hosting MIAA rival Emporia State University in a 3 p.m. (CDT) contest.
