Gorillas Storm into Semifinals With 84-65 Win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jeramy Shaw scored a career-best 34 points to spark the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to an 84-65 win over the University of Central Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the 2024 MIAA Basketball Championships presented by Southern Bank Friday (Mar. 8).

The win sends the No. 3 seed Gorillas into the tournament semifinals where they will meet second-seeded Fort Hays State University Saturday (Mar. 9) at 8:15 p.m. (CST) at venerable Municipal Auditorium.

Shaw made 10 of 13 shots from the floor as Pitt State shot 57.7 percent for the game as a team (30-52). The Gorillas knocked down 10 3-point field goals in the contest, including Shaw converting six of seven attempts.

Deshaun English II also filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots, posting his 13th double-double of the season.
R.J. Forney Jr. and Max Alexander also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Jaden Wells paced the Bronchos with a team-leading 23 points, while Danquez Dawsey chipped in with 14.

Pitt State (20-9) completed a three-game season sweep of UCO (20-11), marking the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Gorillas beat an opponent (Northeastern State) three times in a season.

Pitt State also reach 20 wins for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign. It marks the program's 15th all-time 20-win season (1921, 1930-31, 1942, 1956, 1960, 1972, 1992, 1997-1999, 2001, 2005, 2015).
