Hornets Take Non-Conference Match-up, 9-7, Tuesday

PITTSBURG -- The Emporia State University baseball team scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to overcome a 6-4 deficit and pull in front for an eventual 9-7 non-conference win over Pittsburg State University Tuesday (Apr. 16).

The Hornets (18-25) snapped a modest four-game winning streak by the Gorillas (24-15) with the victory.

Josh Holmes, Hayden Dyer and Austin Warkins all hit home runs for Pitt State on a windy day at Al Ortolani Field. Holmes went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Dyer and Warkins each drove in a pair of runs, while Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo also collected a pair of hits and an RBI.

Ryker Curry (0-2) took the loss in relief for the Gorillas. Pitt State utilized eight pitchers - Landon Reith, Parker Tennill, Lorgan Barnard, Grayson Walden, Curry, Paul Panduro, Alex Kafka and Cole Askew - in the contest.

The Gorillas will travel to Wichita for a three-game MIAA series against Newman University beginning Friday (Apr. 19).
