TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team gained separation from Northeastern State University in the pivotal second quarter and pulled away for an eventual 80-62 road win Thursday (Jan. 30).
The Gorillas recorded their ninth straight win in improving to 18-2 overall and an unblemished 10-0 in MIAA play. NSU dropped to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in the MIAA with the loss.
Macie Mays led three Pitt State players in double figures with 18 points in the contest.
Grace Pyle added 17 points and
Karenna Gerber chipped in with 15. Sydner Holes chipped in with eight points and a team-leading five assists.
The Gorillas led 15-13 after one quarter of play, but Pitt State outscored the RiverHawks by 10, 28-18, in the second stanza to stretch the margin to 12 at 43-31 at the break.
NSU's Alex Hill led all scorers with 20 points. Courtney Lee also contributed 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Gorillas will return to action with a 1 p.m. (CST) contest at Fort Smith, Ark., Saturday (Feb. 1) against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
