PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team ended the weekend at home with a 2-0 defeat against the Washburn University Ichabods on Sunday (Oct. 12) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
Washburn (7-2-2, 4-0-1 MIAA) is one of three MIAA schools yet to lose in conference action this season, and with the win it vaults them into second place in the conference standings.Â
Pittsburg State (8-2-2, 3-1-2 MIAA) allowed a goal for the first time in 461:36 minutes (Sept. 26 at Nebraska - Kearney, 20:56), and first allowed at home since a 4-1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma (Sept. 18).
For the Ichabods, substitute Sam Searcey scored both goals of the match with well-placed shots well inside the 18-yard box after using her physicality to beat defenders in the 32nd and 83rd minutes.
The Gorillas finished with six shots on goal and fired off 19 in total for the game. The best chance to score for Pitt State came in the 33rd minute from a Ryan Caruth shot outside the 18-yard box that hit the crossbar, which got past a diving Lili Everley.
Up next for the Gorillas will be a road match against the Newman Jets on Friday (Oct. 17), kickoff from Wilkins Field is set for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
