Hannah Miller scored a career best 20 points to lead No. 7 Pittsburg State University to a 58-55 season-opening win over Northern State University Friday (Nov. 14) in the MIAA/NSIC Crossover at the UNK Health & Sports Center.
The Gorillas never trailed in the extra session after the Wolves rallied late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
Miller made eight of 14 shots from the field in the game. She added four rebounds and three assists to her stat line. Newcomer
Marin Adams chipped in with 16 points and six rebounds in her Pitt State debut. Newcomer
Cambrie Phillips also finished with 10 points. She made one of two free throws with five seconds left in OT to help seal the victory.
NSU's Morgan Fiedler scored 16 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer with second ticks remaining in the fourth quarter. Izzy Moore scored a team-leading 19 points for the Wolves, while Taylor Tool also scored in double figures with 11 points.
The Gorillas shot 42.6 percent from the field in the game, making 26-61 shots. Pitt State, which trailed 31-26 at halftime, outscored NSU, 15-10, at the free throw line in the game.
The Gorillas will close out their action in the MIAA/NSIC Crossover with a Noon game Saturday (Nov. 15) against the University of Minnesota Crookston.
