Gorillas Earn No. 4 Seed, Home Game in NCAA-II Playoffs

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State football team earned the No. 4 seed in Super Region Four when the 32-team NCAA Division II playoff field was announced Sunday (Nov. 16).

The MIAA Co-Champion Gorillas, who wrapped up a 9-2 regular season with a 27-14 victory over Northwest Missouri State University Saturday (Nov. 15) at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, earned the No. 4 seed in the eight-team Super Region. Pitt State will host Chadron State College (8-3) from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this Saturday (Nov. 22) at Carnie Smith Stadium. Kickoff for the first-round action is set for 1 p.m. (CST).

Tickets for the post-season game will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Monday (Nov. 17) at the PSU Ticket Office. Tickets are $12 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission and $5 for PSU Students (with I.D.). All tickets on game day will be $12.

PSU season ticket holders have until Tuesday (Nov. 18) to purchase their seats. All unsold season tickets will be released and made available to the general public Wednesday (Nov. 19). Per NCAA rules, there will be no complimentary tickets to the contest. On Wednesday, seats in non-season ticket holder sections will be available for purchase by the general public. The Gorillas are making their 22nd trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs. Pitt State has posted a 27-19 record in NCAA post-season play. The Gorillas have made 27 trips to NAIA or NCAA playoff competition overall. The Eagles will be making their ninth all-time NCAA-II playoff appearance, CSC's first postseason berth since 2012.

Pitt State has compiled a 27-8 record in home playoff action (NCAA and NAIA).

Pitt State and Chadron will meet for the first time since 2010. The Gorillas and Eagles met one another in three consecutive seasons between 2008 and 2010. Pitt State posted a 38-31 win over CSC at Chadron, Neb., on Sept. 6, 2008, before posting back-to back home wins over the Eagles the next two years – 41-13 on Sept. 5, 2009 and 14-3 on Sept. 4, 2010.

The winner of the Pitt State – Chadron State match-up will advance to face the winner between No. 1 seed Harding (11-0) and Northwest Missouri (9-2) on Nov. 22. The Bisons will host the Bearcats at Searcy, Ark., Saturday.

In the other half of the Super Region Four bracket, No. 2 seed Central Washington (10-1) will host Western Colorado (9-2) at Ellensburg, Wash., and No. 3 seed Colorado State-Pueblo (10-1) will host Texas Permian Basin (9-2) at Pueblo, Colo, on Nov. 22.
