Mason English led four Pittsburg State University men's basketball players in double figures with 19 points as the Gorillas cruised to a 93-66 win over Maryville University Thursday (Nov. 20) in the Pitt State Classic at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Pitt State (4-1) shot 54.3 percent from the field as a team as the Gorillas converted 38 of 70 shots in the game. Pitt State stormed out to a 55-22 halftime advantage by shooting a blistering 57.9 percent in the first 20 minutes of play.
English went nine for 15 from the field to lead the Gorillas hot shooting night. He also dished out a season best 10 assists to log his first career double-double. English also added a team-leading seven rebounds.
Connor Rogers (17),
David Cobin Jr. (13) and
Landon Short (11) also scored in double figures for the Gorillas. Cobin was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor, while making all three of his 3-point field goal attempts.
Alijah Curry,
Donald Coats and
Evan Jackson all chipped in with six points.
The Saints (0-3) shot 46.7 percent (28-60) from the field on the night and committed 19 turnovers. Evan Palmquist paced Maryville with 21 points, while Preston Clark added 15.
The Gorillas will close out the two-day tournament by hosting Oklahoma Baptist University at 6 p.m. Friday (Nov. 21). OBU defeated Missouri Southern State University, 85-75, earlier Thursday. MSSU and Maryville will face off at 4 p.m. Friday.
