BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team fell in the opening round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament, 3-0 against St. Cloud State on Friday (Nov. 21) at Chet Anderson Stadium.
For the Gorillas (14-4-2) this ends the program's second season with a myriad of first-time accomplishments, including winning the MIAA regular season crown and appearing in the MIAA Tournament and NCAA Division II National Tournament. St. Cloud State (15-2-5) advances to the Central Region Quarterfinals, where they will play the winner of Bemidji State - Central Missouri on Sunday (Nov. 23).
SCSU got on the scoreboard quickly with a fifth minute goal from Linsey Trapino giving the Huskies an early lead. Ellie Primerano scored in the 12th and 82nd minutes to provide the final 3-0 scoreline. Pittsburg State for the match fired off 13 shots with three requiring Jaylee Strickland to commit a save.
Danae Hobson led the team with three shots for the match and registered a shot on goal in each half.
Jocelyn Kramar in goal for the Gorillas finished with four saves.
