PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team dropped an 80-74 decision to visiting Quincy University Monday (Nov. 24) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Hawks (3-2) broke open a two-point game by outscoring the Gorillas (4-3), 15-6, over a five minute stretch of the second half to take control.
Connor Rogers led all scorers with 35 points in the contest. He made 12 of 23 shots, including three 3-pointers, and all eight of his free throw attempts.
Mason English added 11 points and six rebounds, while
Alijah Curry and
Evan Jackson chipped in with eight points apiece.
The Gorillas shot just 40.0 percent from the field in the game (30-75) compared to 65.2 percent shooting (27-43) by the Hawks. Pitt State owned a 22-6 advantage on the offensive glass, but Quincy outscored the Gorillas by 10 points, 21-11, at the foul line.
Tiernan Stynes scored a team-leading 23 points for Quincy.
Pitt State will return to action Sunday (Nov. 30) when the Gorillas host NAIA member Bethany University. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (CST).
