SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Junior Rogers scored a game-high 23 points to help lead the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to a 66-55 victory over Midwestern State University Wednesday (Dec. 17) in day two action of the River City Holiday Classic.
The Gorillas (8-4) posted a 1-1 record in the classic format tournament after dropping a 75-68 decision to the University of Texas Permian Basin Tuesday. The Mustangs (4-6) wrapped up the tournament action with an 0-2 mark.
Pitt State led by as many as 11 points in the first half before settling for a six-point lead, 30-24, at the intermission. MWSU twice trimmed the margin to four points early in the second half, but the Gorillas used a 15-0 run to put the game out of reach. Rogers hit a 3-pointer and added a free throw to complete a four-point play to give the Gorillas a 52-33 cushion with 10:10 to play in the game.
Rogers made six of 13 shots from the floor in the game, including four of six long-range attempts. Junior forward
Alijah Curry added 12 points, while redshirt junior forward
Donald Coats posted eight points and a game high 10 rebounds. Freshman guard
Mason English chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Jonathan Jackson was the lone Mustangs player in double figures with 10 points.
