Four Gorillas Earn All-America Accolades from Don Hansen Committee

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — Four members of the Pittsburg State University football team earned 2025 NCAA Division II All-America honors from the Don Hansen Football Committee Thursday (Dec. 18).

Redshirt senior defensive back Jordan Rogers garnered first-team All-America recognition, while junior placekicker Austin Schimitt, redshirt senior defensive lineman Jeremy Sharp and redshirt senior offensive lineman Carter Stanchfield all were included on the honorable mention All-America list.

Rogers (Bellmead, Texas) made 85 tackles (41 solo) with 6.0 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 quarterback sacks, five interceptions, five pass breakups and four forced fumbles on the season. A three-time All-MIAA selection, Rogers finished his decorated Pitt State career with 162 tackles (91 solo), 15.0 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 QB sacks, 15 interceptions, 14 pass breakups and five forced fumbles. He becomes a consensus first-team All-America honoree after receiving first-team honors from the American Football Coaches Association, the Associated Press and the D2 Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Wednesday (Dec. 17).

Schmitt (Grain Valley, Mo.) converted 19 of 30 field goal attempts, 44 of 45 PAT tries and scored a team-leading 107 points on the season for the Gorillas. Schmitt ranks fourth in NCAA Division II in field goals per game (1.46 pg). He was a first-team All-MIAA selection; and he was named the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Year after securing MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week honors four times during the season.

Sharp (Peculiar, Mo.) made 36 tackles (16 solo) with a team-leading 9.5 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 quarterback sacks from his interior defensive line position. A first-team All-MIAA honoree, Sharp finished his career with 19.5 tackles-for-loss, 8.5 quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.

Stanchfield (Paola, Kan.) anchored a Pitt State offensive line that helped the Gorillas average 29.2 points and 394.6 yards of total offense per game. A two-year starter, Stanchfield made 24 career starts for the Gorillas, including all 13 games in 2025. He also was tabbed a second-team All-America on the A.P. Division II All-America Team Wednesday.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.

Pitt State posted a 10-3 record and qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs for a fourth consecutive season in 2025. The Gorillas captured a share of the 2025 MIAA Championship, the program's third conference crown in four seasons (2022, 2023, 2025).
