Bronchos Come Up “Short” Against Gorillas

Box Score PITTSBURG. — Freshman guard Landon Short scored a career best 22 points to help lead the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to a 77-63 win over the University of Central Oklahoma in the MIAA opener for both schools Thursday (Dec. 4).

Short made seven of 12 shots from the floor in the game, including five 3-pointers, to pace the Gorillas (5-3, 1-0 MIAA). Junior guard Connor Rogers added a team-leading 24 points and nine assists, while freshman guard Mason English chipped in with 15 points, six rebounds and seven helpers.

Pitt State converted 13 of 22 3-point field goal attempts in the game; and the Gorillas shot 45.3 percent from the field overall (24-53) compared to UCO's 37.3 percent shooting night (22-59).

Josh Nwankwo scored a game-high 27 points to pace the Bronchos (6-4, 0-1 MIAA) before fouling out in the game's final minute. Matthew Willenborg added 15 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots.

The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Dec. 6) by hosting MIAA rival Rogers State University at 3:30 p.m. (CST) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
