Tanner Mans led a balanced offensive attack for the Pittsburg State University men's basketball as the Gorillas scored a 71-61 road win over Missouri Western State University Thursday (Feb. 13).
Mans scored a team-leading 13 points while five other Gorillas finished with nine or more:Â Avery Taggers (12),
Jordan Frison (12),
Evan Jackson (11),
Tane Prictor (10),
R.J. Forney Jr. (9).
Pitt State (14-9, 10-4 MIAA) used a 14-3 run to turn a 47-46 deficit into a 60-50 advantage with 5:46 to play in the game. The Griffs (15-10, 6-8 MIAA) never got any closer than eight points of the Gorillas after that.
Pitt State and Western both shot 46 percent from the field in the game, but the Gorillas outscored the Griffs, 18-3, at the free throw line. Pitt State also made nine 3-point field goals compared to three treys by Western.
Jackson had a game-high seven rebounds to go along with his 11 points. Frison dished out five assists.
Pitt State will continue its road swing with a Saturday (Feb. 15) matinee matchup at Maryville, Mo., against Northwest Missouri State University.
