PITTSBURG -- A two-hour rain delay proved to be the only thing that slowed down the Pittsburg State University softball team's offense Friday (Mar. 14). The Gorillas rolled to a pair of run-rule wins against Northern State University, posting 15-1 and 14-1 five-inning victories..
Pitt State (17-7) jumped out to a 3-1 lead in game one before heavy winds and rain descended on the PSU Softball Complex. Once play resumed a little more than 120 minutes later the Gorillas offense went right back to work with two runs apiece in the second and third innings before an eight-run fourth inning put a halt to the onslaught.
Kadyn Trochim and
Amaya Snyder each homered in the game for the Gorillas. Snyder also doubled and scored three times in the contest.
Heather Arnett and
Courtney Storey collected three hits apiece. Story drove in four runs while Arnett scored three runs and recorded two RBI.
Ava Laurent (8-4) allowed one run in 4.0 innings of work with four strikeouts.
In game two, the Gorillas scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second inning and seven in the third inning.
Arnett led Pitt State's 16-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases and three runs scored.
Ava Sarwinski doubled and drove in four runs.
Aydenne Brown (8-3) allowed one run in 3.0 inning of work.
Jadyn Standeford and
Lexi Franklin each tossed scoreless innings of relief.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday with a doubleheader against Minnesota State-Moorhead beginning at 2 p.m.
