Gorillas Sweep Pair From Dragons Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team swept a pair of games from Minnesota State University-Moorhead Saturday (Mar. 15) in day two action of the MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge.

The Gorillas defeated the Dragons by scores of 12-1 and 9-1 at the PSU Softball Complex.

In game one, Heather Arnett and Courtney Storey drove in three runs each. Arnett went 3-for-3 with a stolen base and three RBI. Kadyn Trochim and Sophia Hoffmann each smacked homers in the contest.

Lexi Franklin (1-0) picked up her first collegiate win. She allowed one run on four hits in 4.0 innings of work. She issued three walks and recorded three strikeouts.

In game two, Pitt State (19-7) exploded for six runs in the second inning and forced a run-rule with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Sophia Driver smacked a three-run home run as part of the Gorillas' six-run second inning. Kendall Forbes doubles and also smacked a solo shot.

Jadyn Standeford (2-0) earned the complete-game win. She allowed one run on three hits and fanned two batters.

The Gorillas will close out the three-day weekend action with a pair of games against Concordia University-St. Paul starting at 2 p.m. (CST) Sunday (Mar. 16). Sunday's action will begin at 10 a.m.
