PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team pounded out 25 hits and generated the third 30-run game in program history as the Gorillas posted a 31-12 win over Southwest Baptist University on a blustery day at Al Ortolani Field Tuesday (Mar. 18).
Dagen Brewer tied Pitt State's single game RBI record in the contest. He homered twice, including a third-inning grand slam, doubled and drove in nine runs, while going 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored.
Drew Bugner also went 5-for-6 with two doubles, four runs scored and five RBI. Bugner tied the school single game hits record.
The Gorillas scored four runs in the first inning, before exploding for 20 runs over the next two frames. Pitt State plated nine runs in the second and 11 more in the third inning. Seven Gorillas recorded two or more hits in the contest.
Alex Rodgers joined Brewer and Bugner with four runs scored.
Brady Pacha (4-1) limited the Bearcats (10-12) to one run in 3.0 innings of relief work to earn the win.
The Gorillas, who improved to 17-5 on the season, will open a three-game MIAA series against No. 27 Fort Hays State Univerity beginning Friday (Mar. 21).
