PITTSBURG -- The Pittsbug State University baseball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning to help propel the Gorillas to a 14-4 win over Northeastern State Unversity Saturday (Mar. 29) at Al Ortolani Field.
Nixon Brannan went 4-for-4 at the plate with a three-run home run and five RBI in the contest to help pace the Pitt State offense.
Rickey Sanchez delivered a bases-clearing double as part of the Gorillas eight-run third frame.
Austin Warkins also homered and drove in a pair of runs on the day.
Maddox Thornton (6-1) allowed three runs in 5.0 innings of work on the mound to pick up his sixth pitching victory. He issued one walk and fanned six batters.
Pitt State improved to 21-7 overall and 11-7 in MIAA play with the win, while NSU (10-20, 7-9 MIAA) suffered its ninth straight defeat. The Gorillas and RiverHawks will wrap up their three-game series with a Noon game Sunday.
