No. 24 Gorillas Win Wild MIAA Quarterfinal 10-7 Against Missouri Western

Arnett Sets Pitt State Career Runs Scored Record

HAYS, Kan. - The Pittsburg State University softball team claimed a wild 10-7 MIAA Quarterfinal victory over Missouri Western on Thursday (May 1) from Fleharty Family Field.

The No. 24 Gorillas (38-13) scored seven runs in the sixth inning to retake the lead late and ultimately hold on to the win. In the first inning Kadyn Trohcim singled home Courtney Storey for an early 1-0 Pitt State lead. The Gorillas scored off back-to-back singles from Amaya Snyder and Ava Sarwinksi to stretch the lead to 3-0 in the third inning.

Missouri Western (32-21) capitalized in the fourth with a six-run inning, highlighted by a Kalee Higdon grand slam to make it a 6-3 deficit. Pitt reclaimed the lead in the sixth and then in the seven held on to secure the win.

Heather Arnett finished 3-of-4 from the plate with two runs scored, setting the Pitt State career runs scored record in the sixth inning. Storey finished 2-of-4 with two runs scored while Trochim, Snyder and Emily Ades each finished with 2 runs batted in. Chelsea Beville (3-2) claimed the win with 2.2 innings of relief work and two strikeouts. Ava Laurent and Aydenne Brown combined to strikeout 11 Griffons in 4.1 innings of work.

Pitt State will play the No. 3 seed and nationally ranked No. 16 Rogers State University tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) from Fleharty Family Field in the MIAA Semifinals.
