EDMOND, Okla. – The Pittsburg State University softball season ended on Friday (May 9) at Gerry Pinkston Stadium against Minnesota State – Mankato.
Minnesota State (39-19) claimed the game 5-1, with their first run of the game coming from a bases loaded walk in the third inning. In the fifth, the Mavericks scored four more runs to account for their scoring tally in the game.
Pittsburg State (38-16) got on the board in the bottom half of the fifth off a
Courtney Storey sacrifice fly to right field with
Alleyna Rushing scoring.
Heather Arnett,
Lexi Davis and Rushing finished with doubles in the game to lead the offense.
Ava Laurent,
Aydenne Brown and
Chelsea Beville pitched for Pitt State.
Pitt State made its sixth appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament this season under the leadership of first-year head coach
Josh Barnes. Barnes in his first season leading the Gorillas accomplished the most wins by a first-year coach in program history and was the first to lead the team to a National Tournament berth.
