KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team was selected ninth in the 2025 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Coaches Poll released Friday (Aug. 22).
The reigning MIAA Regular Season champions, Nebraska - Kearney were picked first with nine first-place votes and 119 points. The 2024 MIAA Tournament champions, Central Oklahoma received the remaining three first-place votes and 111 points to be ranked second. Rounding out the top-three, Washburn received 98 points.
Missouri Western (4th, 96pts), Central Missouri (5th, 73pts), Emporia State (T6th, 69pts), Northwest Missouri (T6th, 69pts) and Fort Hays State (8th, 45pts) were the other programs selected above Pittsburg State.
Pitt State received 43 points in the poll to earn the No. 9 ranking after going 10-16 overall and 5-11 in MIAA play in 2024.
The Gorillas will host their annual Red/Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. (CDT) at John Lance Arena.

Megan Besecker enters her first season leading the Gorillas, she will have 11 returners from 2024 and 11 newcomers to round out the roster. Headlining the returners from a season ago are All-MIAA libero/defensive specialist

Pitt State will open its 2025 campaign with the annual Gorilla Classic on Sept. 5-6.
