PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Joplin, Mo., Saturday (Sept. 20) to compete in the 36th Annual Missouri Southern State University Stampede. The women's five-kilometer race will start at 8 a.m. (CDT) with the men's eight-kilometer race to follow at 8:45 a.m.
The Pitt State women enter the meet ranked No. 10 in the most recent United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, while the Pitt State men are ranked No. 20.
This will be the second competition of the season for the Gorillas squads after both teams sent partial units to the Southwest Baptist University Bearcat Invitational on Sept. 5.
At SBU, the women were paced by
Emily Vandaveer's 16th place showing in the 5-kilometer race. She was clocked in 19 minutes, 11.71 seconds.
Kelsey Bruening (19:19.83) and
Caitlin White (19:23.57) finished 17th and 20th, respectively. In the men's four-mile race,
Houston McGown paced the Gorillas in 20:24.42, placing 13th among individuals.
Liam Kirkpatrick (20:49.81) and
Kade Meinke (21:04.99) finished 30th and 32nd overall.
