PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team hosted the Missouri S&T Miners on Sunday (Sept. 7) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch, falling 3-1.
Pittsburg State (1-1) got on the board early with a 6th minute strike from
Ella Cazzavillan finding the back of the net. Cazzavillan weaved past a pair of Miners (2-0) before rifling a low shot past an onrushing Anastasia Barcom in a 1v1 duel inside the box.
Trinity Gray picked up her first collegiate assist on the goal.
At the half, the Gorillas held a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard and fired off more shots (6-4) than Missouri S&T.
The second half saw a boost in goals being scored and within an eight minute stretch saw three cards issued between the two teams.
Missouri S&T tied the game in the 48th minute from an Ella Kramer strike with Greycen Erisman recording an assist. The Miners added a 56th minute goal from Adriana Benassi and in the 60th minute from a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box.
Pitt State had a chance to cut the lead in half in the 72nd minute, but a penalty effort by
Danae Hobson was saved. The Miners had a chance to add to their lead in the 80th minute from a penalty attempt, but a newly introduced
Jocelyn Kramar in goal recorded a diving save to keep it 3-1.
Livi Jones led the Gorillas with three shots and was tied with Hobson for the team lead in shots on goal with a pair. Kramar and
Sabrina Schilt split time in goal, with Schilt coming away with three saves and Kramar claiming two.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the beginning of three straight home games on the schedule, as the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (2-0) will face off against Pitt State on Wednesday (Sept. 10) at 4:00 p.m. (CDT) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
