EDMOND, Okla. - The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team fell on the road against the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Saturday (Jan. 17) at the Hamilton Field House, 69-59 in the MIAA TV Game of the Week.
Central Oklahoma (12-8, 5-3 MIAA) was led by Matthew Willenborg with a 31-point, 11-rebound double-double performance. Josh Nwankwo (13) and Ben Averitt (11) were the other members of the team to finish in double figures for points.Â
Pittsbug State (11-7, 5-3 MIAA) got 22 points from
Connor Rogers in the loss.
Mason English was the other Gorilla to finish with a double-digit scoring tally with 12 points and provided a game-high six assists.
Up 32-27 at the half, Pittsburg State maintained a lead into the second half until a Willenborg jumper with 9:31 remaining gave the hosts a 47-46 lead. The two teams tied it up three times in the following three minutes before a 12-3 run by UCO in the final five minutes of the game helped the Bronchos defend home court and pick up the conference win.
Up next for the Gorillas will be a return to the friendly confines of John Lance Arena for a 3:30 p.m. (CST) tip off against the Missouri Southern State University Lions on Saturday (Jan. 24).
