WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team completed an undefeated regular season Sunday (Oct. 25) with a dramatic 1-1 tie against No. 19 Central Missouri at the South Recreation Complex.
For the No. 7 Gorillas (13-0-5, 7-0-5 MIAA) a
Sammie Edwards goal at 89:21 capped off a furious late rally to secure a point and preserve the undefeated regular season. Edwards headed down a cross from
Ryann Caruth, Edwards now is the team leader with five goals on the season and for Caruth it was her third assist this fall. UCM (12-1-4, 7-0-4 MIAA) grew into the match and claimed a goal to go ahead 1-0 at 80:43. A last second attempt at goal from the Jennies was fired off but did not cross the goal line before the final buzzer sounded and was deemed a no shot and the game a tie, 1-1.
For Pittsburg State they end the regular season with 26 points in the conference standings to be tied with Washburn and ahead of Central Missouri (25). WU and UCM will end their regular seasons on Wednesday (Oct. 28). To claim a share of the MIAA Regular Season title, Pitt State would need a Washburn loss and either a Central Missouri loss or tie. PSU can finish anywhere from 1-3 in the standings based on results from the WU and UCM matches.
Avianna Gonzalez led the team with three goals and two shots on goal.
Jocelyn Kramar recorded four saves in the match. As a team, PSU held an 11-8 advantage on shots while being even for shots on goal at 5.
Up next will be a MIAA Tournament Quarterfinal match hosted at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on Sunday (Nov. 1). The opponent for the Gorillas is yet to be determined and will be announced following the conclusion of the MIAA regular season slate.
